Situated in northwest Arizona, the Grand Canyon spans 277 miles and represents a vast ravine carved by the Colorado River. In a recent TikTok video, a content creator posting under the username @heyarielnicole showcased drone-captured imagery of the remarkable area. Layering the short video, she inserted text saying: “I am today years old since learning people dwell within the Grand Canyon.”
In the caption, she elaborated further: “I must have been absent from class that day because I was unaware of this lol! Did you all know people live in the Grand Canyon?”
Her video has amassed in excess of 65.5 million views to date. Within the comments section, viewers expressed their disbelief, while others pointed out Shila S Siyuja, a woman who genuinely lives within the Grand Canyon alongside her family.

Shila publishes a diverse array of content on social media, offering peeks into the realities of residing within this natural wonder. While she is surrounded by incredible scenery and can relish all that the local environment offers, certain disadvantages still exist.

In one widely watched video, Shila recorded herself and her family undertaking an “eight-mile walk back home” after they missed their flight returning to the canyon. The family lives in the well-known Supai Village, found at the canyon’s bottom.
This ancient settlement remains remarkably isolated and can only be accessed via an eight-mile hike, helicopter ride, or mule transportation. It acts as the capital of the Havasupai Tribe and is famous for its magnificent, vibrant blue waterfalls and its tightly knit communities. There’s a shop for essentials, a postal service, a school, and even a café.
