Apple users have been left gobsmacked after learning about a ‘hidden’ feature that ensures they’ll always say ‘happy birthday’ to loved ones on time.
Apple updates its iPhone iOS every year, providing its customers with new apps, more shortcuts, and improved functionality.
However, it can sometimes take iPhone users a while to figure out the changes the software update has made to their phone, making them wonder how long a feature had been available for before they found out about it.
Sharing a little-known feature released as part of iOS 18, TikTok user Simple Alpaca shared a video explaining how you can schedule texts for later in the day or week.
All you need to do is click the plus (+) symbol next to the iMessage box when writing out a text and click on the ‘Send Later’ option.
Following this, a date and time will appear in a blue bubble above your message – and you can change this by clicking on it and selecting your preferred time and date. Many users pointed out how this could be used to send friends and family a happy birthday message to wake up to on their special day.

While others shared their concerns elsewhere on TikTok about the feature being used for ‘evil’ – such as sending friends messages at 2am when they’re trying to sleep. One user said: “I’m going to just go ahead and send happy birthday to everyone ahead of time so I don’t forget.”
Another user added: “This is how I call out sick so I don’t actually have to wake up.” A third user said: “2:32am texting into work ‘I’m sick’.” One more user added: “Sending 20 ‘good morning’ text as once at 7:37 every morning.” However, some users pointed out that you could do this through iPhone’s shortcut feature ahead of the update, and Android users boasted about having this ability for years.
One user said: “Whoa. I thought all phones could already do that… Android has been able to for years.” Another user added: “Pretty sure you could always do that with the shortcuts app.” A third user said: “I had an android back in 2012 and I could do this.”
