Holidaymaker fumes as woman ‘reserves’ sunbeds for 8 hours

A woman has shared her rage after catching a holidaymaker ‘reserving’ sunloungers for eight hours while she and her partner were left without a seat.

It doesn’t matter whether you’re in Spain, Greece, or Mexico, there’s always someone up at 6am with towels in arms on their way to reserve the sunbeds for an entire day.

That’s exactly what one 28-year-old experienced when holidaying at a Mexican resort this summer.

Taking to Reddit, she said: “Every day when we’d go to the pool, all the poolside lounges were taken (people actively sitting on them). That’s fine, we just pottered around and didn’t really get phased.

“After a few days, we were sitting on a bench watching four empty lounge chairs, they had towels on them but were empty. We went to breakfast, after a few hours, came back, still empty. We figured these people had gone into town for the day.”

Annoyed, she and her partner, 30, neatly put the towels to one side and sat on the sunbeds and used them as intended. But two hours into their tanning session, a woman stormed over shouting about them using their reserved lounge chairs.

She added: “A woman comes over extremely aggressive. Stated they were her chairs and she got up at 5am to claim them. I stated it’s 3pm now and we’ve observed the lounges multiple times and you haven’t used them all day and it’s selfish [and] there is a no ‘claim’ policy.

“She continues to drag the two spare lounges, including my partner’s lounge as he was in the bathroom, across the ground while talking loudly so I can hear her calling me a ‘rude b***h’ and other profanities. It was incredibly awkward and they were so disrespectful.”

She shared how she and her partner then shared one lounge chair while the woman used her fourth chair purely as ‘storage’. She said: “We ended up leaving not long after and after we left she continued to say “thank god the -enter expletive- has left”.

“Has too much time passed since I stayed at a resort where I truly broke some unknown code that if you claim a chair with a towel it’s yours all day even if you’re not using it? Apologies for the rant, this just always infuriates me. Really takes the joy out of trying to enjoy your well-earned break by entitled p*****.”

Commenting on her post, one user said: “You cannot reserve lounge chairs. I was in a similar situation, some group of 20+ people had the early riser reserve chairs by putting towels out. This annoyed me, as I too am an early riser, and was at the pool at 9am. So I sat my butt down, laid out the towel, got comfortable, ordered a drink, and waited until she was done and on her cell and out of site.

“I waited one hour, then I moved all her stuff and put it on a single lounger. Anyone asking if the chairs were available, was welcomed by me to sit and enjoy. Two hours later that b**** came back, and by this time, all the chairs were taken that she reserved. She was annoyed, I was gleeful and happy.”

Another user added: “Yeah, so this has been an issue for a few years now. Some resorts are putting up signs to say you can’t reserve the lounges like that. it’s not like there is a chair for every guest in the resort, find one when you need it or go a bit earlier…but reserving it from 5am is ridiculous.

“One place I went, if they didn’t see you use the chair for a while they would just go around collecting ‘dirty’ towels. It also helps that they were resort towels. so no drama about ‘you took my towel’. Also, anything like sunglasses they ask around, but then just take it to lost property.”
