A canine bred for the hunt met a small domestic cat and exhibited an unexpected reaction, leaving his human astonished yet amused. The canine in question is a GSP, a flexible gun dog skilled at both land and water based hunting and retrieval.
They’re regularly referred to as “regal-looking” canines, owing to their moderate size, sporty physique, unique spotted and mottled coat, generally a blend of browns and white, and their delicate, drooping ears. They’re exceptionally high-energy yet also loving and are commonly advised for experienced dog parents who may be better equipped to handle their strong hunting instincts.

German shorthaired pointers are acknowledged and appreciated for their hunting skills, though they’re also frequently suggested as an excellent selection for a family companion. Pet MD states: “Besides being cherished hunting partners, German shorthaired pointers can be fantastic family dogs who are perpetually prepared for any outdoor pursuit.”
One GSP owner received a rather large surprise while visiting his relative’s residence with his beloved dog, Pascal, in tow only for him to display a remarkable response to the resident cat – and he documented everything on film.
In the short video, Pascal can be observed walking down a set of steps carefully and arriving on a split-level landing. A ginger domestic cat is present there, which halts the dog in his path.

Individuals downstairs shout up, asking about what’s going on, and the owner verifies Pascal is “terrified of your [their] ginger cat”.

As the owner nears the feline, the canine recoils toward the initial staircase to avoid the cat and disregards recurring “here” commands.
When another person picks the cat up, Pascal descends the steps again, though pauses on the landing once more. His owner shouts “here” but Pascal remains cautious before being described as “a big soft boy”.
Overlaid on the footage, which was uploaded on TikTok, the owner added text stating: “my 30kg hunting hound meeting my brother-in-law’s 0.5kg cat”.
In the description, he simply penned: “what a baby”. In the comments area, other TikTok participants were quick to voice their thoughts.

One individual commented: “To be fair.. it is an orange one! They can be unpredictable”. Another remarked: “Cats have unbeatable confidence”.
A third shared: “Honestly cats are the MMA fighters of the animal world cuz they be standing up to bears dogs etc they do not get scared”.
A fourth mentioned: “Pointers are so dramatic”, to which Pascal’s owner replied: “such baby”.
Someone else chimed in: “Pointers are so soft and gentle. My three cats all love her and go to her for cuddles or head bops”.
