How to remove sticky sand from skin after day at the beach

A mum has shared her trick for removing sticky sand from her children’s skin after a day at the beach – and it requires a few items you can bring from home.

A mum has ignited a debate after the way she removes stubborn sand from her children’s skin after spending time at the beach. While some have hailed it a “brilliant” idea, others have dismissed it as “completely unnecessary” and suggested another technique.

Mum Dani Houston, known on TikTok as daniellehouston_, shared her method of cleaning up her kids by dusting them down with baby powder to easily remove the sticky sand.

In her video, she explains: “I never travel to the beach without these two things – baby powder and a sock. I don’t know if you know the feeling of wet sand, trying to get it off your skin, but it rubs and kind of hurts.”

“This is one of the best hacks I’ve ever learned to get sand off of my kids pain-free.”

She then demonstrates by pouring a handful of baby powder into a sock, tying a knot in the sock, and using it to wipe down her children’s arms and legs.

She continued: “This is the best for if the sand is kind of wet and stuck on their body. You want to put the baby powder over the wet sand first and let it kind of dry the sand out – and then it’s really easy to wipe away.”

One impressed user praised her hack, saying: “Found this tip a couple of years ago, it works! I put it in a sandwich bag so I can reuse it.”

Another user added: “Okay, this is a great hack!

A third user said: “My mum has been doing this since I was little and yes wet sand does hurt.”

However, not everyone was sold on the idea, with one person suggesting: “Just wash it off in the showers available.”

Another user scoffed at the situation, saying: “What a waste of money and baby powder flying away on the beach to pollute more. Water is right there.” A final user sarcastically said: “I use a liquid called water – it works great.”
