A woman was left puzzled after it appeared her local postal worker deserted his delivery bag on her doorstep before disappearing.

“Postman just left his bag in our porch and we can’t find him,” she penned in a Reddit post, accompanied by a photograph of the bag filled to the brim with letters and parcels. This peculiar occurrence ignited a wave of conjecture from hundreds of other users regarding the mailman’s location and his motivation for potentially leaving the mail unattended.

“Give it a bit of time, and if he doesn’t come back, then telephone your local office. My postman had a medical issue once and needed to change,” one person suggested. “He suffers from Crohn’s disease and was extremely embarrassed when he returned, but now is aware he can simply knock if he requires the bathroom.”

In agreement, another person recounted their personal story, stating: “As a postal worker with IBS, I can attest that it undoubtedly has its moments. The initial route I trained on contained only one public restroom, but it was located right at the end of my route, meaning that from departing the delivery depot at 8:30 AM, there was no available place for me to even urinate until 4 PM.”

They continued: “The sole potential spot was tucked away behind several trees on a residential street, but the other side of the fence was a primary school playground, so if it was playtime for the students, no urination for me. Not risking being placed on a register due to an unfortunately positioned hole in a plank of wood.”

And a third speculated: “The van has dropped it there during the ‘loop,’ which is the walking portion, so the mail carrier isn’t forced to lug around two or more bags for the entire route. Frankly, they generally ask the householder before doing this.”

Elsewhere, some proposed that the woman should assume control and deliver the mail herself. “I would be inclined to deliver a few items,” one Reddit user mentioned.

“I once came across an Evri parcel on the roadside (tracking indicated it was out for delivery) and decided to deliver it myself. I actually encountered the Evri driver searching through his trunk for the parcel, and he shook my hand in appreciation for returning it.”

Another joked: “This is how postmen are selected. When one retires, they leave their bag with whomever they believe would be the most suitable postman.” And a third individual remarked: “Get off Reddit and deliver that lot.”

However, there was no reason for significant worry, as the original poster later came back to share an insightful update. “UPDATE: he came back,” she announced. “He went home for a s***.

“Truly first class,” commented one Reddit user in response. While another jested: “Urgent drop off.”
