Mount Thor is a remote peak in Canada that has the largest vertical drop in the world. The mountain is just under 1,675 meters high, but its most impressive feature is its western slope, which is so steep that it actually curves around.
An object falling from the top of Mount Thor's western slope would travel 1,250 metres (4,100 feet) before hitting anything. If a person jumped from the summit without an open parachute, they would be airborne for a full 26 seconds.
The western slope of Mount Thor has an average slope of 105 degrees, implying that the mountain has a 15 degree overhang. The western slope, as the Facebook post mentions, is “steeper than vertical,” making the mountain look like it has been roughly cut in half.
