Owners discovered adorable reason cat wasn’t sleeping in its bed

A cat wasn’t sleeping in its bed, puzzling its owners, who found out the reason behind this after capturing a cute hidden video at home.

The owners of a pet cat couldn’t work out why the feline wasn’t sleeping in its bed and then they found out why thanks to a camera inside their home.

In an adorable video caught on the camera the black and white cat can be seen in a young boy’s room, presumably the owners’ son. While the boy is  sleeping, unaware of the video being taken, the cat jumps on his bed and sits next to his head before the child puts his arm around the kitty and pulls it in for a hug, tucking it under the duvet so they are both warm and snug in bed together as if cuddling a teddy bear.

After a few moments, the cat also closes its eyes and falls asleep. The cute clip, posted on X, has won the hearts of many people online. It was shared on the Posts Of Cats page with the caption: “Owners couldn’t figure out why the cat wasn’t sleeping in its bed…then they saw this.”

The post has received an incredible 13.7 million views since being uploaded in the early hours of yesterday (Monday, January 27). It has also got 148,000 likes, 9,700 retweets and 339 comments.

One X user said: “I’m not crying, you’re crying.” Another added: “Aww, the sneaky kitty found a comfier spot.”

A third person guessed: “He was waiting for that little arm to hug him – so precious.” A fourth user claimed: “Cutest video of the day!” while another shared that they love how the cat falls asleep at the end of the video.

Further comments include “awww that’s so adorable”, “Wholesome!”, “cats are amazing” and “guardian angel.” A different user noted that “cats can sleep anywhere” and others in the comment section shared where their pet cats sleep.

One cat parent said: “My cat rarely lets me do things like this. She prefers to sleep on my chest, near my feet or against my back. Basically anywhere she can where the fan is blowing because she’s (a) weirdo that prefers the cold.”

Another commented: “Yep. That’s me. My kitty would rather sleep with me & my husband too.” It seems some cats are fond of children as there is another video in the thread of a different young boy sitting on the floor in front of a sofa cradling a cat in his arms like how a mother holds her baby.

Cats Protection, the UK’s largest feline charity, has explained why some cats like to sleep with or on humans. The three reasons they gave is warmth, bonding and because you’re in ‘their’ bed.

Warmth is often a “main requirement for a perfect sleeping spot” and your body “is like a big hot water bottle” for cats so they’ll “love to snuggle up to you to keep cosy.” If cats are happy to cuddle up to you “it shows that they trust you and see you as a friend”.

Lastly, Cats Protection states: “Human beds make great cat beds because they are comfortable, warm and raised off the ground. Cats like this because it gives them a good view of their surroundings.

“Beds usually also come with a built-in hiding space under the bed which helps them feel safe in case of any danger. So the reason they’re sleeping on you in bed could be because you’ve taken up all the room in their favourite sleeping spot. They have no other choice but to get comfy on top of you.”

Keep in mind you should keep cribs and other baby sleeping-locatons off limits for cats.
