A man has sparked a debate on social media after suggesting there’s a time traveller in a 1941 photograph taken in South Side, Chicago.

An ordinary photo from 83 years ago has people wondering whether time travel is real. The picture, taken by Edwin Rosskam in South Side, Chicago, shows a group of well-dressed children and teenagers lining up to enter a movie theatre in 1941.
But what caught people’s attention the most was the young man standing on the far right of the photograph. Some social media users believe the boy is clutching onto an iPad as he patiently waits in line to watch the latest film with his friends.
Sharing the image on Reddit’s timetravelerscaught thread, one user said: “iPad carrying movie goer, all the way to the right.” However, others believe the young man is simply carrying a notebook, saying: “Looks like a book to me.”

Another user added: “Back in the day of early film, ushers scanned the audience for pens and notepads as to prevent bootleg recreations of the film.”
A third user said: “If I can time travel, have an iPad and I’m black why in God’s name would I go to the South Side of Chicago in 1941 to watch a matinee of “The Aldrich Family”?! Everybody knows the only true Henry Aldrich was portrayed by Jimmy Lydon, not Jackie Cooper.”
Commenting on the photo itself, another user shared their thoughts on the fashion at the time, saying: “They all are dressed so nicely. To wear your Sunday best to see the movies, it must have been a fantastic treat.”
In agreement, one more user added: “Part of me wishes we would all dress up like that for the little things, and then I debate if I am even going to shower today.” A final user said: “Amazing how nicely dressed they all are. The little men’s hats are so adorable.”
