Social media can reveal all manner of surprises, with continuous opportunities to discover new things. Yet, one individual experienced an unusual jolt when they noticed a post from an account situated thousands of miles away, exhibiting the distinct front door of the house where they were raised.
Relating the curious story on Reddit, they confirmed it was undoubtedly the same door as it was unique, having been custom-made by their uncle. The door boasts a pale mint green colour, complemented by a brass letterbox that incorporates a knocker, and a prominent round stained glass window. It is surrounded by a darker green frame, also decorated with stained glass.

Posting on Reddit, the user explained: “My parents relocated last year. The old house contained a stained glass door crafted by my uncle.
“Upon moving, they were happy to relinquish it if the new occupants intended to keep it, but requested that if they ever wanted to dispose of it, they could inform my parents, who would gladly retrieve it to prevent it from ending up in a landfill. The new owners concurred and assured them they would keep it.
“A few months passed, and the door had been substituted with a brown UPVC door, with a skip outside brimming with all the original features from the house, leading us to presume they had simply discarded it. We were all quite disappointed.

“That is, until yesterday when I was browsing Instagram and stumbled upon my parents’ old door on my feed, now located in the United States and featured in an architectural salvage company’s catalogue!”

The door has ended up in the possession of Dead People’s Stuff, an antiques and design business located in Oklahoma – over 4,500 miles distant from the UK. And it’s being sold for over £15,000, the Mirror reports.
The user included: “Now, we’re all simply relieved that the door survived and wasn’t thrown away as we had feared, but also perplexed as to how it arrived there. Either the new homeowners sold it, or they intended to throw it away and a worker rescued it. Regardless, it’s comforting to know that it hasn’t been lost and ideally, someone else can derive pleasure from it, but it’s certainly surreal to see the front door of my childhood home advertised online.”

The post by Dead People’s Stuff confirmed it was acquired during a trip to the UK. It appears to still be in excellent shape, though it might require a new coat of paint. After the Reddit post, Dead People’s Stuff provided an update on Instagram, stating: “We thought we were just displaying a beautiful door… but this piece held far more history than we initially realised.
“Following its posting, the son of the original proprietors contacted us and informed us that this entryway had resided in their home in England. The wooden door dates back to the 1930s, and the stained glass was custom-made by their uncle around 2005.
“His mom forwarded us these photographs of it in its original context, and frankly, we are incredibly thankful for the history and pictures they’ve provided us. We will ensure that when it finds its subsequent home, its story will endure with it.”

The Reddit user also shared some updates. In one, they clarified: “I simply want to briefly state – none of us are upset about it being taken to the US, and we don’t desire its return. We’re all genuinely delighted that it survived, and we hope someone will cherish it as much as we did. The optimal future for it is for it to populate the backdrops of someone else’s memories, as it does ours.”
In another, they mentioned they were not concerned to discover the door is priced for sale at $20,095.63 after tax (slightly above £15,000). “It’s hand-made, unique, and if someone is prepared to pay that price, they will likely cherish it,” they commented. “It’s unfortunate that it has been removed from a working-class household and will no longer be enjoyed by people in the village passing by it, but that’s not attributable to the new seller.”
