A woman's act of kindness in giving away her belongings for free took an unexpected turn when a stranger asked her a curious question.
While many choose to donate their unwanted items to charity shops, some people choose to directly support their community by donating items through social media.

One woman, an activist with local online groups Buy Nothing, was frustrated by people who claimed they urgently needed free stuff but didn’t take it. So she decided to leave all the stuff outside her house for anyone to pick up.
She didn't expect the reaction. Sharing her experience on Reddit, she wrote: “I often post things for free in our local groups where nothing is bought.”

“We have a lot of stuff, both in my house and at my grandmother’s,” she continued. “Most people just don’t come and hold it in their hands because they ‘really need it.’”
“I got tired of storing things for months, so I took everything outside. I took a picture and wrote: 'Everything that people never picked up. No need to pick it up. Pick it up at (address). Don't take up the table.'
The woman noted that her desk was cluttered with so many items that she had to extend the display onto the walkway.
She added: “Someone asked me, 'Is that all or are you going to add more?' I said, 'That's all [that] people still haven't absorbed. I'm not adding anything else.'”
The answer she received surprised her. “She said, 'That's disappointing. Could you add something else or let us walk through your house and pick out something else?'”
The woman's response was full of bewilderment: “EXCUSE ME, who do you think you are… My house is not free to come in and take whatever you want. Yes, she is elderly, so her right does not surprise me. It is just the audacity to ask for this that amazes me.”

Reddit users chimed in, sharing the woman's shock: “Wow! The nerve!” and sarcastically: “I'm surprised she didn't ask if she could have your house too.”
One commenter shared a similarly unpleasant experience: “OMG! Our first garage sale, we had everything set up, the sale starts at 8:00am, 6:30am! While my husband and I are in bed asleep! There's something scratching and banging on [our] bedroom window!
“The window is about two feet away from our bed, and someone is peering through the gap in the curtains and sees my husband's head two feet away. They were trying to wake us up so we'd let them into the garage early and check our stuff.”
