Apple has announced a new MacBook Air that brings significant performance improvements at a lower price.
Apple has had a very busy week. The American tech giant has already unveiled new tablets, including a more powerful iPad Air, which is now equipped with an M3 processor. If that is not enough to satisfy technological demands, the team from Cupertino has prepared even more new products.
It's just been confirmed that the incredibly popular MacBook Air is getting a refresh, with the ultraportable PC getting a new boost thanks to a powerful M4 chip housed in an aluminum chassis.
With the M4 chip, Apple promises that users will be able to tackle demanding digital tasks without worrying about crashes. In fact, according to Apple, video editing in iMovie on the new MacBook Air is up to 8 times faster than on the fastest Intel-powered MacBook Air, and photo editing in Adobe Photoshop is up to 3.6 times faster.
The M4 processor not only delivers increased performance, but also significantly increases battery life: the device can operate for more than 17 hours without recharging.
The increased power will also allow this PC to support high-speed Apple Intelligence, meaning users can get instant help when editing photos, writing emails, sorting inboxes, and more.
That processor isn't the only upgrade: The Air also gets an improved 12-megapixel camera. This module now features Centre Stage technology, which enables face tracking to keep you in frame during video calls.
Apple confirmed that it also supports Desk View, which displays the user and their desktop on top at the same time, making video calls even more engaging.
To make it stand out, the new Air also comes in a new color called Sky Blue. This vibrant shade now joins Midnight, Starlight, and Silver in the lineup.
It's still available in two sizes — 13- and 15-inches — and retains all the familiar features like the Touch ID fingerprint scanner, Force Touch trackpad, MagSafe charging, plenty of ports, and a durable aluminum body.
If that sounds appealing, there's more good news: Apple is cutting the price this year. That means prices start at £999 – £100 less than before. Students can look forward to an even bigger discount, as Apple is offering the new Air to students for just £899.
Pre-orders are now open and it will hit stores next week.
“MacBook Air is by far the most popular notebook in the world, and today we’re giving everyone even more reasons to love it, including a massive performance boost from the M4 chip, a new Center Stage camera, and a gorgeous new Celestial Blue finish,” said Greg Joswiak, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Product Marketing.
“With its thin and light fanless design, all-day battery life and the incredible capabilities of macOS Sequoia with Apple Intelligence, MacBook Air is like no other. And with a new lower starting price of £999, MacBook Air offers consumers more value than ever before, making it the perfect time to upgrade or get started with Mac.”
