Apple is rolling out a huge free update to the UK today, but only if your iPhone is on the list

Apple Intelligence is finally available in the UK – here's how to get it and which iPhone you need

After a long wait, iPhone owners in the UK have finally started receiving Apple Intelligence on their devices. This intelligence update was first unveiled back in June, and is now set to make UK phones significantly smarter. Apple Intelligence, which is now rolling out as part of iOS 18.2, includes new features such as help with writing emails, reviewing messages, and providing instant summaries to make it easier to find information in your chats.

Users will also be able to create unique emojis — called Genmojis — by simply entering a description, and there’s also the ability to create personalized illustrations using the new Image Playground app. Just explain what you want to see in your artwork, and Apple Intelligence will do the rest.

Selfies and family photos can be quickly edited by automatically removing unwanted shots using the new intelligent Clean Up tool.

Apple's Siri assistant has also become smarter and more reliable in answering your queries—it no longer matters if you stutter or pause—plus there's full integration with ChatGPT, making search results and answers much more advanced.

Other added features include a visual intelligence feature that can scan text or tell you what an object is just by pointing the camera at it, and the Photos app is even smarter with improved search to help you find your favorite photos faster.

If you've always dreamed of becoming an artist but your drawing skills don't quite match your imagination, the kit also includes an Image Wand to turn a rough sketch into something more exhibition-worthy.

The update also makes it easier to find help information and guides.

It's a significant upgrade from Apple, but not everyone will be able to get it. The only compatible devices are the iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max, and the new iPhone 16 lineup.

If you have one of these phones, you'll find Apple Intelligence in the latest iOS 18.2, which should be available now.

Simply go to Settings > General > Software Updates and tap Download and Install .

Some UK iPhones are getting a major free update this month. Is yours on the list?

Once downloaded to your device, you can easily enable Apple Intelligence. Simply go to Settings and tap or click Apple Intelligence & Siri. Generative models will begin loading once users initiate this setup.

“We're excited to introduce the next chapter of Apple innovation. Apple Intelligence will transform what users can do with our products, and what our products can do for our users,” said Tim Cook, Apple's CEO, at WWDC in June.

“Our unique approach combines generative AI with a user's personal context to deliver truly useful intelligence. And it can access that information in a completely private and secure way to help users do what matters most to them. This is the kind of AI that only Apple can deliver, and we can't wait for users to experience what it can do.”

It's also worth noting that Apple Intelligence is available on both iPad and MacBook.
