The crew of the Axiom 4 spacecraft separated from the International Space Station on Monday morning, preparing to return to Earth.
At 7:15 a.m. ET, the SpaceX Dragon spacecraft, named Grace, separated from the station.
The spacecraft is scheduled to return to Earth on Tuesday. According to NASA, it will bring back more than 250 kilograms of cargo, including NASA equipment and data from more than 60 experiments conducted during the mission.
Grace docked with the ISS on June 26. The mission included scientific research aimed at an in-depth study of microgravity conditions. The crew's mission duration was extended by four days from the originally planned two weeks.
The mission included Shubhanshu Shukla, Slavos Wisniewski and Tyber Kapu. It was their first spaceflight, and Peggy Whitson, the Axiom-4 commander, was on her fifth mission.
Grace is scheduled to land off the California coast. This is SpaceX's second crew rescue from the West Coast, following the Crew-9 mission in March.
