Virgin Media takes on Sky by offering free upgrades to popular TV channel

Virgin Media has introduced two new bonus channels that require no extra payment to watch.

Virgin Media has confirmed that it is expanding its TV service, and the upgrade is unlike anything Sky has seen. The TV and telecoms provider is now giving its subscribers full access to two new channels that are completely free to watch. The FAST (free ad-supported streaming TV) services include Wonder (channel 238) and Red Bull TV (channel 556), both of which offer a range of additional content.

Wonder features programming on cutting-edge engineering, innovative technology and scientific research, while Red Bull TV is packed with action from motor racing, cycling, snowboarding and more.

If you have a Virgin Media TV set in your living room, you will now be able to find both channels in the Virgin Media TV Guide. Voice control is also available. Virgin says there is no need to re-setup or reboot your boxes, as all updates are automatic.

These new channels now join the existing 32 FAST channels available on Virgin TV, including Tipping Point and Deal or No Deal.

Speaking about the update, David Bouchier, Director of TV and Entertainment at Virgin Media O2, said: “We always strive to provide Virgin TV customers with the very best entertainment experiences, so we’ve added two more rich streaming channels for them to watch and enjoy.

“With Wonder and Red Bull TV, we can bring inspiring and compelling stories from around the world, offering customers even more options to watch around the clock at no extra cost.”

While Virgin now has these new channels, Sky has an improved way to watch thanks to the launch of the new Glass Gen 2 TV. This device now offers improved visuals, better sound and easier setup. Like the original Glass, it also doesn’t require a satellite dish to access content that is beamed to the big screen via the network.

Prices start from £14 per month.
