Your Fire TV Stick is facing a new streaming block as Amazon confirms major changes

The popular streaming service available on Fire TV Sticks is shutting down for good.

Fire TV Stick owners will soon have one less free app to enjoy. The popular Freevee service has been confirmed to be shutting down, meaning it will no longer be available to use. For those unfamiliar, Freevee is an ad-supported platform that offers a diverse selection of movies and TV shows to watch without the need for expensive subscriptions.

The platform currently features shows and movies such as Mad Men, Hell's Kitchen, Goodfellas, Scream 2 and Jack Ryan. Amazon has also brought several Prime Video originals to Freevee, including Jeremy Clarkson's The Grand Tour and action thriller Reacher.

Unfortunately, for those currently enjoying Freevee, there won't be much time left before it disappears from our screens. Amazon recently confirmed its plans to phase out the free streaming service in an attempt to attract more users to its Prime Video service.

Amazon Is Giving Away Free Echo Speakers, But The Surprise Deal Ends This Week

“To simplify the viewing experience for customers, we have decided to phase out the Freevee brand,” an Amazon spokesperson told Variety.

“Content available to Prime members will remain unchanged, and non-Prime users will continue to have access to a wide range of free streaming content, including select originals from Amazon MGM Studios, a variety of licensed films and series, and the extensive library of FAST channels — all found on Prime Video.”

Variety reported that Freevee “will be gradually shut down over the next few weeks.”

It's currently unclear how this change will impact Freevee users, but it looks like they'll still be able to enjoy plenty of content without needing a Prime subscription.

A Prime Video subscription costs £5.99 a month, while full Prime access costs £8.99, but some content will be available without having to pay these fees.

Besides the Freevee shutdown, there's other big news for Amazon's Fire platform.

Forget the Fire TV Stick — Amazon Confirms There's a Much Better Streaming Option Now Available

The online retailer has just announced the launch of new Micro LED TVs that offer more premium features than the company's other screens.

Not only do these top-of-the-line Gogglebox devices provide easy access to all the hottest streaming services like Disney+, Prime Video and Netflix, they also feature high-resolution displays.

In fact, Amazon claims that its new Fire TV Omni Mini-LED series “optimizes picture, sound, and performance to deliver its best and most innovative TV to date.”
