A former Justice Department employee has been charged with federal assault after he allegedly “forcefully” threw a Subway sandwich at a U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) agent during an incident Sunday evening in Washington, D.C.
Metro police said they were patrolling the U Street area, likely as part of the Trump administration's initiative to combat crime in the nation's capital, when a man, later identified as Sean Charles Dunn, verbally abused a CBP agent while standing inches from his face and calling him a “fascist.”
Police said Dunn returned shortly afterward, angry, and “forcefully threw” a sandwich at the agent, hitting him in the chest, according to court documents. He then fled, pursued by federal officers.
According to a video posted to Instagram, bystanders could hear them laughing as Dunn ran from police.

After being arrested and transported to the police station, Dunn allegedly told another officer, “It's me. I threw the sandwich.”
He is charged with committing a serious crime – assault on a law enforcement officer.
Attorney General Pamela Bondi confirmed Thursday that Dunn previously worked at the Justice Department and was fired.
“I just learned that this defendant was employed by the Department of Justice — NOW NO LONGER,” Bondi wrote in her post. “Not only was he FIRED, he was charged with a felony. This is an example of the Deep State that we have been fighting for the past seven months as we work to reorient the Department of Justice. You will NOT serve in this administration if you disrespect our government and law enforcement.”
U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia Jeanine Pirro responded to the incident on social media Wednesday, sending a strong message to anyone considering attacking a police officer.
“He thought it was funny,” Pirro said in the video. “Well, he doesn't think it's funny today because we're charging him with assault on a police officer, and we're going to give the police every support they can. So take your Subway sandwich somewhere else.”

The incident comes after President Donald Trump on Monday federalized the District of Columbia's Metropolitan Police Department under Section 740 of the District of Columbia Home Rule Act, which allows the president to take emergency control of the police force for 30 days.
Hundreds of National Guard troops were deployed to the city, joining agents from federal law enforcement agencies including the FBI, the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), the U.S. Capitol Police and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF).
