Five years after a family in Maryland lost their beloved cat, Artemis has been reunited with them.
Melissa and Brooke Garci exerted considerable effort to locate Artemis, an indoor/outdoor cat, after she disappeared in 2021, according to WJZ-TV.
Melissa Garci informed the news outlet that she distributed flyers throughout the neighborhood, but it yielded no results.
Fast forward five years, and a woman brought a cat to the Humane Society of Harford County, stating she discovered it in her unfinished basement.

“A compassionate member of the community brought Artemis to our shelter,” the Humane Society announced in a Facebook post.
The non-profit organization mentioned that, as part of their standard procedure, they scan every animal admitted for a microchip and discovered one on the stray feline.
“We contacted the manufacturer to trace her chip and then called the owner. Her owner answered the phone, utterly astonished. Artemis had been missing for 5 years!!” the Humane Society exclaimed, adding, “Tears of joy were shed during this heartwarming reunion. We are incredibly pleased to have brought this family back together!”

Erin Long from the Humane Society told WJZ: “The woman answered, ‘Hello?’ and we replied, ‘We have your cat,’ and she was incredulous. She then asked, ‘Are you certain? My cat vanished five years ago.'”
Brooke Garci shared with the station that she felt unable to cry immediately upon seeing Artemis again, “because I was in disbelief, but when I saw her, I thought, ‘Oh my goodness, she looks precisely the same.'”

“Her survival instincts are quite potent,” Brooke remarked.
Long recounted that when Artemis initially emerged from her enclosure, she proceeded directly to the Garcis and settled onto both their laps.
“It was a truly touching moment,” she commented.
