A Florida man is accused of stealing a Cybertruck during a test drive last month and then returning to the dealership later to retrieve his belongings, according to the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office.

According to FOX 13 Tampa Bay, Dexter Smithen allegedly visited a Tesla dealership in Tampa on March 26 to test drive the Cybertruck Cyberbeast after meeting with the salesman.

The document states that Smithen provided the dealer with his driver's license, which was verified as his, and signed a test drive agreement promising to return the truck to the dealer within 30 minutes of leaving, which he failed to do, according to the document.

Attempts to contact Smithen at the number he provided on the test drive agreement were unsuccessful. The seller also emailed Smithen asking him to return the Cybertruck.

Another sales associate used geolocation tracking to locate the truck on March 31 and told deputies that Smithen left it in a Home Depot parking lot where he went into the store, according to the statement.

The seller filmed Smithen walking through the parking lot on his cell phone, then took the Cybertruck and reported the crime to the Department of Traffic Enforcement.

Smithen reportedly returned to the Tesla dealership on Tuesday to retrieve some of his belongings that were left in the Cybertruck.

He was arrested at the office and, according to a sheriff's deputy, during a search they found five credit cards in five different names.
