A Florida resident was taken into custody this week after purportedly purloining hundreds of pounds of avocados from a Miami-vicinity grove, authorities stated.

Edel Perez, 29, was apprehended after officers reported witnessing him departing a secured avocado orchard with sacks of avocados gauged to weigh roughly 400 pounds, as per the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office arrest documentation.

Perez reportedly confessed to law enforcement that he was jobless and was intending to vend the misappropriated produce to procure Yuletide gifts for his two offspring.

At approximately 3:10 a.m. on Monday, officers stated they noticed a male individual clad in entirely black attire gathering avocados within the grove.

The avocado orchard is encircled and displays a “No Trespassing” marker, according to authorities.

Officers discovered bags of avocados inside Perez’s Mercedes-Benz and matching bags in the grove containing newly harvested fruit.

Police relayed that they also located uncontained avocados in the automobile’s trunk.

The avocados were approximated to be worth $800, as per the arrest document.

Perez is facing accusations of illegally entering an agricultural site and third-degree grand larceny.
