A Florida woman is facing charges after she attracted attention by allegedly spraying a noxious substance on a driver and his passenger during a bizarre roadside incident involving a chicken crossing the road.

Cynthia Valeska Diaz Sosa, 38, was arrested July 9 in Key West after colliding with another driver, Perla DeMiller, according to authorities.

According to Key West police, Sosa stopped her car in the road to let the chicken pass, but DeMiller, who was driving behind Sosa, honked her horn and swerved around her, hitting the bird.

That's when the “trouble” began.

“Cynthia wanted to teach her a lesson,” according to an affidavit obtained by Fox News Digital. Investigators say Sosa allegedly followed DeMiller’s vehicle, forced it to stop, opened the driver’s door and sprayed pepper spray into the vehicle, hitting DeMiller in the face.

Key West police charged Sosa with two counts of battery, a second-degree felony, and one count of burglary with assault or battery, a first-degree felony. She was arrested that day and released on $35,000 bail on July 10, according to court records.

Police later identified and stopped Sosa's black Toyota Corolla, detaining her at the scene. According to the arrest report, she was searched before being taken away. Sosa was then taken to the lobby of the Key West police station, where she gave a voluntary statement to officers.

Court documents obtained by Fox News Digital indicate that Sosa has entered a written plea of not guilty through her attorney, Dustin Hunter. Hunter has not yet responded to Fox News Digital's request for comment.

DeMiller, who was driving to pick up her child from daycare, was reportedly blinded and disoriented by the spray. A passenger in her car was also reportedly hit by pepper spray. All involved are now protected under a judge's no-contact orders.

“While the women were struggling for the car door, Sosa threw an object into the car, striking DeMiller directly in the face,” the arrest report states. Sosa later arrived at the police station and allegedly told authorities she was “angry because DeMiller hit a chicken,” the arrest report states.

The same document states that Sosa then “returned to the car and drove away.”

She was later located and detained during a traffic stop, the statement said, after her car was identified and spotted by police.

Sosa remains free on court-imposed bail. A court hearing is scheduled for July 24.
