Kids will only eat junk food, says man who cut family out of his travel plans

U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services Robert F. Kennedy Jr. shares information about efforts to phase out petroleum-based synthetic colors in the nation's food supply on “Jesse Watters Primetime.”

A personal story shared in a viral Reddit post has sparked a wave of reactions as a man admitted he would not be traveling with his brother's children due to food issues.

He wondered if he was making a mistake in “refusing to go on a trip with my brother’s family because his children only eat junk food.”

The man, who identified himself as 39, said he was “currently undergoing treatment for cancer.”

Once he completes his work, he says, he “intends to go on holiday with a friend or family member on the other side of the world.”

He told others that he lives in the UK and is therefore “thinking about Vietnam, South Korea, Japan or some other place I've never been to.”

“They are both extremely picky eaters – and my niece only eats plain beige food,” the man shared in a viral social media post. “She won't even eat McDonald's burgers, only chips and nuggets.” (iStock)

The man explained that he had suggested to his brother, who is 43, that he consider going on the trip with him.

“He was very happy and said that his daughter, 12, and son, 8, would also join him.”

“I know my brother and his wife have tried their best to introduce them to other foods, but they just refuse to eat them.”

However, the Reddit post added that “they are both extremely picky eaters – and my niece only eats plain beige food. She doesn't even eat McDonald's burgers, only chips and nuggets, which is about 80% of the kids' diet.”

The man noted: “I know my brother and his wife are making efforts to introduce them to other foods, but they just refuse to try them.”

The man wrote that while he “loves children very much,” he also wants to travel to experience food culture, and that's important to him. He wants to get off the beaten track and experience things in life that he hasn't had the courage to do before.”

The man said he wanted to go “off the beaten track” and “experience food culture.” However, complications arose when his brother insisted on taking his young children along. (iStock)

He continued: “For me, from a selfish standpoint, this trip is a sign of completing my treatment and celebrating that life goes on after cancer. It's also not something I can afford.”

So the man informed his brother – given his desire for the children to travel with them – that he would now “prefer to travel with someone else.”

The brother expressed anger and disappointment over the matter, the man shared, saying he felt, “I'm being selfish because traveling with his kids can also be filled with… To make matters worse, we live in different countries so we don't see each other very often. They will be very disappointed when they find out I've cancelled those plans. I have mixed emotions,” he added.

For further context, the man said he was “currently undergoing treatment for cancer. I just started. I have stage 3 thyroid cancer, stage 3, that has spread… I'm currently undergoing chemotherapy, started the first round, then surgery, then more chemo, and then radiation.”

He noted that his planned trip “will not take place before the end of 2026.”
