Since childhood, almost every child, from the stories of adults, learns about an unknown beast that lives in Loch Ness in Scotland. However, what kind of creature it is, no one can say to this day. As proof of its life, there are only photographs of a strange creature with a “fin”. From this photograph it follows that this creature clearly cannot belong to either a large mammal or any species of shark.
So what is the mystery of the Loch Ness Monster? Does it really exist or is it all just a visual trick?
If we trust the Celtic legends, then the Romans were already “familiar” with this monster during their great conquests. The first mention of an unseen beast was recorded in the chronicle of the fifth century AD, which talks about the existence of a monster living in the River Ness. However, since then, no one remembered the strange water dweller until the 19th century, when, under unknown circumstances, a sailboat with people sank to the bottom of these waters. The most inexplicable thing in this story is the fact that the weather did not foretell any trouble, so no one was able to establish the specific cause of the tragedy. After the local population learned about this story, national folklore began to develop on its own. Stories and stories that chill the blood in the veins about a monster that will kill everyone who invades its domain were born with incredible speed.
Over time, such stories gained wide publicity. One of the local newspapers even published a large spread in which a married couple who lived near the lake told in an interview that they had encountered this monster face to face.
The local authorities could not miss the opportunity to make money on this story. And so they specially built a road to the lake, where a huge number of curious travelers began to flock, eager to see the mystical creature. The previously calm and quiet place became too lively. Here at any time of the day you could meet photographers, local onlookers or tourists. Local residents even began to build so-called observation posts.
The popularity of this place grew so much that local authorities seriously considered catching the “river devil”. But such a decision quickly came to naught, as scientists claimed that there was no substantiated evidence that this monster actually existed.
The next mention of Nessie was made only during World War II. According to an English pilot, while flying past the island, he managed to see a creature of enormous size, similar to the Loch Ness monster. But due to the difficult situation in the world, the stories of the pilot Farrell were quickly forgotten. In the 50s, several eyewitnesses also claimed to have seen the outlines of an unknown beast.
In 1954, a book entitled “More Than a Legend” was published, which described all the eyewitness accounts and possible guesses that indicate that Nessie does exist.
But the stories are not reliable evidence of the existence of the “river devil”. Among the indisputable evidence that could become direct explanations of Nessie's life, there would be some photographs. For example, the photo of Dr. Wilson, which shows the end of the tail sticking out of the water. The photo could indicate that this animal cannot be classified as the most ordinary and studied. Even the smallest piece of the captured fragment of the fin or tail indicates a non-standard anatomical structure. Unfortunately, in the process of research, it was proven that the photo cannot be considered authentic. A little later, the author himself admitted that the photo is a high-quality fake.
Another photo could indicate that the monster does exist. This is a photo taken by aeronaut T. Dinsdale. The image shows a large trace left by a creature of considerable size. For a long time, this photo was considered proof of the existence of the monster. But, unfortunately, in 2005, numerous studies confirmed the fact that this was just a trace left by a boat.
Later, the lake was examined using various ultrasound tests. The latest equipment could not provide answers to the question that worries the entire world. Inexplicable vibrations and other phenomena were detected, which no scientist can explain to this day. The most recent evidence is considered to be a picture from a Google map, where a blurred white spot is recorded in the lake, vaguely resembling the monster itself. But one cannot ignore the fact that the study established that the flora of the lake is very poor, so it simply cannot provide so many vital resources for the life of the monster.
To this day, there is still no generally accepted version of what the locals actually saw. Was it a visual illusion, or did they manage to see something mystical and inexplicable from a scientific point of view?
There is also a version that the whole story with the Loch Ness monster is a staging by the owners of local hotels. Since tourists rarely visited here before the rumors about Nessie, then, of course, every cafe or hotel was a loss-making enterprise. In order to radically change the situation, businessmen probably had to use the maximum of their imagination. But what person will admit that it was just a figment of his imagination? Therefore, the mystery of the existence of the Loch Ness monster remains a mystical secret of an apparently unremarkable lake. The question of whether it will ever be solved in the future is unknown, since modern equipment, although it found some inexplicable waves and vibrations, has not been able to establish the cause of their occurrence.
