While stories of plane seats being swapped continue to spread on social media, one traveler who found himself in a similar situation has managed to make some money.
A passenger on the flight shared on the r/delta forum how he or she (gender unspecified) was offered $100 for a middle-row seat on a flight from Tampa, Florida, to New York City.
“That's why I usually choose an aisle seat,” the user noted. “This guy, who was two rows ahead, had a middle seat. His girlfriend got the middle seat next to me. He said he tried to change his seat at check-in but couldn't.”
The flyer read: “Then he offered me $100 (all $20 bills) to switch seats with him. For a flight that usually lasts two and a half hours, and a seat in the middle for $100 – I said, 'Sure, I'll take it.'”
The man concluded: “If anyone has cash, depending on the flight, I can take it.”

Reddit users debated in the comments whether they would take the money and ended up sharing their own stories of how they swapped places.
“This is how you can change places,” one user noted.
Another commenter said: “At least he offered you something instead of the usual guilt trip.”
Another user noted: “Since airlines value seats differently, there is no reason why passengers should experience any differences. A willing buyer and seller made a deal that benefits both parties.”
One Reddit user added: “Same thing happened to me. Some woman offered me $100 to sit next to her husband. But he already paid me $150 to stay put.”

“I would probably tell him to keep the money and exchange it anyway because it's the most brotherly thing to do and that's how it should be,” one user said.
Another commenter added: “I would never in my life book a middle seat to save $100, but I would happily sit in a middle seat for two hours or less if someone offered me cash.”
One person noted: “I would never do this, but I'm tall and not skinny, so middle places are torture for me.”
One Reddit user wrote: “Here's how to ask someone to swap places. Cash in hand.”
Another commenter said: “This is an acceptable way to make such a request. It is also reasonable to negotiate with such a person. Offering something without value, as most people do, is disgusting.”

Gary Leff, a Texas travel expert and author of the blog “View From the Wing,” told Fox News Digital that passengers who want to switch seats should be offered something and have a compelling reason.
