In a viral post on Reddit, a woman has asked for advice and support, explaining that she no longer allows her friend to “borrow her car” because she “returned it in bad condition last time” and is now being criticized for her decision.

At the moment, more than 3,000 users have responded to the publication, and about 1,000 comments about the situation have been added to it.

“I have a decent used car that I've spent a lot of time paying off,” the 27-year-old wrote.

“It's nothing fancy, but it works fine and I take really good care of it – I do regular maintenance, keep it clean, don't smoke, and don't leave trash in it,” the Reddit poster added.

“I've always been careful with her because I need her every day for work.”

She said that just a few months ago, a friend — “let's call her Sarah” — asked if she could borrow hers for a weekend trip because her own car was being repaired. “I was hesitant, but agreed because we've been friends for years and I wanted to help,” she wrote.

A Reddit poster reported that a friend returned the car two days later with a ton of problems.

There were “fast food wrappers” in the back seat and “dirt on the floor of the front passenger seat.”

First, it had “less than a quarter of a tank of gas (I filled it up before giving it to her),” the woman noted.

Then, “fast food wrappers” were found in the back seat, as well as “dirt on the floor of the front passenger seat.”

Finally, as the “icing on the cake,” there was a “mystery scratch on the rear bumper that she said 'was already there' (even though it wasn't),” the woman said.

She admitted that “I didn't say much at the time because I hate conflict, but I was really [upset]. Especially because I expected more from someone I'm friends with.”

“Fast forward to this week. She texted me asking if she could borrow my car again for another trip,” the woman wrote in her viral post. (Getty Images)

The woman continued in her message: “Fast forward to this week. She texted me asking if she could borrow my car again for another trip.”

So “I very politely told her no,” the Reddit user added, “and explained that I just didn't feel comfortable giving it to anyone anymore.”

The friend apparently “got upset” and started “saying things like, 'Are you sure you can't just help me? That's what friends do for each other' – I feel like she's trying to guilt me,” the woman said.

“I just didn't feel comfortable lending it to anyone.”

The woman wrote that she was now “getting messages from another mutual friend of ours saying I was too stressed and that it wouldn't hurt if I helped her 'just this once'.”

The woman added: “I feel like I'm being made to feel guilty for setting boundaries after I've already been used once.”

“It's your car. It's valuable and, to a certain extent, necessary. You don't have to explain why you don't want to borrow it.” (iStock)

She then asked others to give their opinion on whether she was right in refusing to lend her car to the same person again.

“Don't back down,” one commenter wrote. “She's not your friend, and
