Eye-opening video displayed the instant a roadway gave way beneath two unsuspecting drivers in proximity to the University of Nebraska-Omaha Tuesday, depositing their vehicles several feet into the earth.

Recordings obtained by university surveillance cameras seemed to indicate the two autos approaching an intersection, alongside one another, before a vehicle came to a halt behind them, seemingly initiating the sinkhole.

Emergency personnel responded to the occurrence at 67th and Pacific streets at around 3:30 p.m., local station WOWT stated.

The occupants of the vehicles had exited the cavity by the time law enforcement arrived.

“This took everyone off guard,” University of Nebraska-Omaha Public Safety Lt. Dan Martin stated to the station.

The station indicated a heavy-duty tow truck with a winch recovered the autos hours later, and workers endeavored to extract concrete from the hole.

Martin cautioned the sinkhole could grow, though it seems no further sinkholes had been noted as of Wednesday evening.

Authorities communicated to WOWT the street will be closed for “several days,” and motorists should stay away from the locale.
