Brooke Webster explains how to stay up-to-date with flight information on travel days. As a former airline employee, she says texting yourself your flight number the morning of your flight is her top tip that she shares with others. Find out why it's important!

Summer travel is in full swing after a record-breaking Memorial Day weekend.

About 45.1 million Americans are projected to travel at least 50 miles from their homes, and 3.61 million people will travel by air.

For passengers who typically carry a lot of stuff, a viral pillowcase hack now appears to be helping some avoid having to check their luggage.

This pillowcase travel hack allows you to hide clothes and other soft items under your travel pillow.

People place their belongings in an empty pillowcase and then take the pillow on board for free.

Most airlines allow passengers to carry travel pillows without adding them to their checked baggage.

New York-based travel expert Francesca Page told Fox News Digital that she recently returned from a trip and noticed a large number of people traveling with pillows.

“I always thought it was for convenience during the flight, especially on overnight flights,” Paige said.

“However, I have come to the conclusion that this is not the ONLY reason why people take pillows with them.”

Paige noted that with “tightening baggage rules and increasing fees, people will be wise to use a pillowcase to carry bulky items that don't fit in their bag, as it's not technically considered any larger than a regular pillowcase.”

“It's safe to assume that they'll just let her through.”

Gary Leff, a Texas-based travel expert and author of the blog View From the Wing, told Fox News Digital that he noticed the hack trending on social media in 2023 and 2024.

“Nobody is against a pillow as extra carry-on luggage,” Leff noted.

“It's not usually placed on the overhead bin or under the seat, so you'd think it would just be skipped.”

“I think this trick has been discussed enough that it has become too obvious to work in most cases. At the very least, there is enough risk that it won't work that it's probably not worth trying,” he added.

Leff said that by trying to take more things than allowed just to save on packing, passengers become “human suitcases.”

Some even put on as many clothes as possible, filling their pockets with extra things.
