A woman has come forward alleging a suspected meteorite pierced her roof, causing a significant hole and leaving behind a rock the size of a football, mere hours after a perplexing boom echoed through the Houston region.

Residents of Houston expressed alarm on social media platforms on Saturday afternoon following the sound of what they described as a substantial explosion in the vicinity.

The Brenham Fire Department acknowledged it responded to calls concerning a potential explosion close to Highway 50, although responding units found no evidence at the scene.

The department reported that multiple individuals witnessed a “green flash descending from the sky, accompanied by black smoke and a loud ‘boom.'”

Emergency officials also mentioned that alternative accounts suggested the noise might have originated from a “possible meteor.”

Sherrie James, who contacted affiliate FOX 26 and the Ponderosa Fire Department after the incident, stated that an “unusual stone” penetrated her roof, resulting in a large aperture in her ceiling and flooring.

Images shared by James depicted a black rock, comparable in size to a football, that appeared to be a fragment of a larger mass.

Given the absence of any construction or nearby trees, fire authorities informed FOX 26 that the rock was likely part of the suspected meteor observed across Houston.

The American Meteor Society has documented what it terms a “fireball event” over Texas on Saturday, having received over 100 accounts from the public.

Witnesses indicated the event persisted for durations ranging from 1.5 to 7.5 seconds, though expert validation is still pending.
