A TikTok user in Mexico experienced a persistent cough, initially believing it was due to seasonal changes. However, the actual cause was her own nose ring lodged deep within her lungs.
Monica Deyanira Cabrera Barajas, aged 26, recently gained significant attention on TikTok, with her video garnering 4.7 million views after she shared the bizarre medical incident.
In her shared videos, she disclosed that the errant jewelry was positioned a mere 0.5 millimeters from her aorta, as reported by Jam Press.
Deyanira, who sports numerous piercings, did not initially realize the piece of jewelry was missing. It was only after she developed a “chronic cough” that persisted for over a month that she sought medical consultation.
“My only hypothesis, which I shared with the pulmonologist, is that I must have fallen asleep, the small ball detached, and that was it,” Deyanira stated to creatorzine.com.

“I was lying on my back; I wasn’t aware, and that’s how I got into trouble.”
What was expected to be a routine 20-minute removal process transformed into a high-stakes medical undertaking. During the initial attempt, medical professionals were unable to dislodge the object, as it had started to adhere to her internal tissues.
“It ultimately took an hour and 20 minutes, and they still couldn’t extract it because it had become embedded in my body,” she recounted, according to the Jam Press report.
Facing the prospect of a second, more invasive surgery and the significant risk of a fatal hemorrhage, Deyanira braced herself for the worst. The evening prior to the operation, she penned a farewell message to her loved ones.

“I genuinely thought, ‘I’m going to perish,'” she admitted. “It’s a terrifying experience I wouldn’t wish upon anyone.”
The surgeon operating on the woman was also astonished by the proximity of the metal to her heart. According to Deyanira, the doctor remarked, “It appears divine intervention protected his creations.”
Had the metal pierced her lung or heart before it was located by the medical team, Deyanira indicated she would have likely succumbed to a collapsed lung or a ruptured aorta.
Now, the TikTok personality has declared an end to her days of wearing septum rings.

“I appreciate piercings and I was quite fond of my septum piercing, but in my situation, I wouldn’t opt for it again due to the sheer terror I endured,” she expressed.
Her followers commented that the incident “awakened a phobia I was unaware of.”
