The Draconid meteor shower will pass over Belarus tonight.

After sunset on October 8, residents of the Northern Hemisphere, including Belarus, will be able to witness a beautiful astronomical phenomenon – the Draconid meteor shower.

According to a correspondent for the online publication Belnovosti, experts predict that approximately ten meteors will appear in the sky every hour.

Although the number of “shooting stars” is small, individual meteors can be very bright.

They will leave trails lasting about a second, LiveScience writes, so the spectacle will more than make up for the flow's modest numbers.

The main obstacle for observers this year will be the bright light of the full moon.

Unlike many other meteor showers, the peak activity of the Draconids will occur in the evening, around 10:00 PM.

Because the light from the full moon will “bleach” the sky, only the brightest flashes will be visible.

The source of this stream is comet 21P/Giacobini–Zinner.

It was discovered back in December 1900 and since then every 6.5 years it flies through the inner part of the solar system, leaving behind a trail of cosmic dust particles.
