A “blood moon” was visible from Earth yesterday evening, marking the first total lunar eclipse since 2022.

A total lunar eclipse occurs when the full Moon passes directly through the Earth's shadow, giving our planet's natural satellite a reddish, bloody hue – a phenomenon commonly referred to as a blood moon.

Skywatchers across America captured images of the unusual event as the Moon completed its lunar phase on Thursday evening and Friday morning (March 13-14).

In North America, one photographer captured a 'blood moon' rising over the Statue of Liberty in New York, while another captured it peeking out from the clouds over the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco.
