Very strange things are happening in space. Sometimes the Sun is showing abnormal flare activity, sometimes black holes are behaving in a frightening way.
In particular, scientists have noticed the largest merger of these same black holes in the entire history of observations, reports a correspondent for the online publication Belnovosti.
This phenomenon was discovered by specialists representing the LIGO-Virgo-KAGRA collaboration, writes Belta.

The discovery was made using observatories in the cities of Hanford and Livingston, as well as gravitational wave detectors.
Two black holes, 100 and 140 times the mass of the Sun, suddenly began to rotate around each other at high speed.
The result of this process was a collision that created an even more massive black hole.
According to scientists, its mass is 225 times greater than the mass of the Sun.
As noted, the phenomenon was recorded through gravitational waves back in November 2023.
To date, about 300 black hole mergers have been detected using gravitational waves.
Before this, the most massive binary black hole (of those known to scientists) exceeded the mass of the Sun by 140 times.
As reported by EurekAlert, the researchers plan to officially present the new discovery at scientific conferences.
The events will take place from July 14 to 18 in the Scottish city of Glasgow.
