BUBONIC Plague cases have been confirmed in China amid the chaos caused by the coronavirus pandemic – but what does the Bible have to say about plague and pestilence?
The Bubonic Plague is estimated to have killed at least 25 million people worldwide during the Dark Ages. Cases of the disease have now flared up in northern China where the World Health Organization (WHO) said it is monitoring the situation. WHO spokeswoman Margaret Harris said: “Bubonic plague has been with us and is always with us, for centuries.

“We are looking at the case numbers in China. It’s being well managed.
“At the moment, we are not considering it high risk but we’re watching it, monitoring it carefully.”
The news comes amid the coronavirus pandemic, which has infected close to 12 million people globally since November 2019.

What does the Bible say about plague and pestilence?
There are nearly 100 mentions of plague throughout the Bible, primarily in the Old Testament.
According to BibleStudyTools.com, plagues are also mentioned in the New Testament’s Book of Revelation.
The plagues of revelation are mentioned in reference to the end of the world and the Second Coming of Jesus Christ.
The end times are foreshadowed with prophetic warnings of plague, pestilence and economic collapse.
Jesus said in Matthew 24: “Take heed that no man deceive you. For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many.
“And ye shall hear of wars and rumours of wars: see that ye be not troubled: for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet.
“For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers places.
“All these are the beginnings of sorrows.”

Deuteronomy 28 reads: “If thou wilt not observe to do all the words of this law that are written in this book, that thou mayest fear this glorious and fearful name, The Lord Thy God;
“Then the Lord will make thy plagues wonderful, and the plagues of thy seed, even great plagues, and of long continuance, and sore sicknesses, and of long continuance.
“Moreover he will bring upon thee all the diseases of Egypt, which thou wast afraid of; and they shall cleave unto thee.
“Also every sickness, and every plague, which is not written in the book of this law, them will the Lord bring upon thee, until thou be destroyed.”
Revelation 11 reads: “These witnesses have power to shut the sky so that no rain will fall during the days of their prophecy, and power to turn the waters into blood and to strike the earth with every kind of plague as often as they wish.”
Revelation 18 reads: “Therefore her plagues will come in one day – death and grief and famine – and she will be consumed by fire, for mighty is the Lord God who judges her.”
Plague is also mentioned in the Book of Hosea in the Hebrew Bible.
Hosea 13 reads: “I will ransom them from the power of Sheol; I will redeem them from Death.
“Where O Death, are your plagues? Where, O Sheol, is your sting?”
