A man has been left questioning everything after uncovering a gravestone in his garden under a huge pile of leaves
A man has shared his shock after discovering a gravestone just seven feet from his bedroom door. He explained how he moved into his new house in New York, US – and was excited to explore his new property from top to bottom.
But when doing so, he came across a grisly discovery making him wonder whether his house is haunted. He said on Reddit: “Found a tombstone on the property of my new house I just bought. It’s seven feet from my bedroom door. It’s [in the] main part of the yard. It was covered in leaves – about five feet of leaves.”
The gravestone reads: “C. Stadtmiller. 1872 – 1938.” He confirmed how the gravestone was placed on his property long before his house was built in 1958. He added: “It’s a stolen headstone, we figured it out.”
After researching the information on the gravestone, he came to learn C. Stadtmiller is Caroline Stadtmiller, who was buried at First Methodist Church Cemetery, New York, at age 65.

“I’m calling the cemetery today to tell them I have it. To my surprise, they already sent the picture I posted to grave.com. The nicest thing since I posted this six anonymous donations of flowers have been placed on this website for Caroline. Grave.com where I found the cemetery.”
In an update, he added: “I tried calling the cemetery and it’s disconnected. So now I’m going to physically go there to see if there’s a stone on the grave and if there’s not, I’m bringing this tombstone to that cemetery. Go figure, it was opened in 1938.”
Commenting on his post, one user said: “Congratulations you are the new owner of a ghost.” In response, he added: “Pictures are always falling from the wall but other than that no noises or anything.”
Another user said: “In some states, if there is a body buried on your land it makes your property tax exempt as you are technically a graveyard. Worth looking into.” A third user said: “Leave it, respect it, accept it.”
