Two NASA astronauts completed a nearly six-hour spacewalk to perform maintenance and upgrade work on the International Space Station, the agency said Thursday.

Anne McClain and Nicole Ayers relocated the station's communications antenna and improved its power generation capabilities.

“In addition, the pair of astronauts performed several preparatory tasks, including installing a connecting cable to provide electrical power from the P6 truss to the Russian segment of the ISS, as well as removing bolts from the micrometeorite coating,” NASA said in a press release.

The relocation of the communications antenna and the installation of the bracket freed up space for future equipping of the ISS with additional solar panels.

Although the team completed most of its tasks, McClain and Ayers were forced to postpone some due to time constraints and limited supplies.

It was McClain's third spacewalk and Ayers' first. It was also the fifth all-female spacewalk conducted by NASA astronauts.
