The mockingbird is America's top bird. This bird has such a developed intelligence that the feathered bandits have learned to mock others.
First, some basic information. Mockingbirds are songbirds. They are divided into a bunch of species that are hardly worth remembering for a non-ornithologist. Before we move on to its incredible trolling, let's take a closer look at the mockingbird, that is, we go to the USA, Mexico or Canada.
Length – 25 cm, wingspan – 35 cm, tail – 13 cm. The animal is lively, smart and bold, so it does not matter where it lives, it is normal in a clearing, in a semi-desert, forest, field. The animal eats invertebrates, seeds and fruits of plants. The birds are not afraid of people, they are more interested: “what kind of primate is this?”.
How do they reproduce? In mid-February, courtship begins, then, out of nowhere, 2-6 eggs appear, which the female incubates for 12-13 days.
They make their nests from whatever they can find. Textbooks tell of the unsurpassed courage of the mockingbird, which guards its nest. The mockingbird can call for support from the air with a loud battle cry, to show the entire village that it will not have an omelet or a fresh chicken today. Aggressive birds seem to say: “a peck in the eye, or are you hungry?”
Florida ornithologists offered students a strange experiment. For several days, teenagers openly teased (threw objects, tried to catch, etc.) urban mockingbirds, which did not touch anyone and calmly built their nests. On the third and fourth day, the birds were so fed up with this that they jumped up and attacked the offenders. Some of them persistently pecked at these experimenters. The animals did not forget the faces of those who teased them even after many days.
Let's move on to the most interesting thing – its abilities. The bird confuses other animals by imitating different voices. The mockingbird sings like a god, its vocal data is truly impressive.
With his trills, he makes identical covers of other famous bird performers, but he also has his own tracks, and they are quite good. He has a huge repertoire and a developed breathing room – strong vocals, songs are loud and long. He respects his fans very much, he is ready to sing from morning till night. He also adapts to the audience, gives them what they want, urban – urban songs, forest, respectively, forest.
He is capable of all natural musical genres, he imitates not only other birds, but also city sounds (such as the creaking of a car or subway), and the voices of other animals. The male has from 50 to 200 songs in his repertoire.
As a result of one observation, 32 voices of other different birds were heard in a ten-minute song of a bird.
This singer is loved by everyone because of his sense of humor. This bird is clever and makes fun of chickens quite well, portraying a kite or an eagle. He also “makes fun” of cats, portraying another cat or an angry dog. He “makes fun” of a dog, portraying the owner's whistle, and so on.
However, one should not conclude that the bird has a semblance of human emotions and a sense of humor. Their imitation of “bullying” makes biological sense: it could be to protect territory, scare off competitors, attract females, or as a means of distracting predators.
The conclusion is this: the mockingbird is a top American bird that will give its life for its family and sell its soul for the opportunity to sing.
