Can you go outside and walk if you have a fever?

The issue becomes more relevant every year during the season of exacerbation of various inflammatory diseases. On the one hand, at this time, doctors recommend bed rest, on the other hand, the same doctors talk about the benefits and even the necessity of fresh air, Ukr.Media informs.

In adults, the normal temperature ranges from 36.4 to 36.6 °C. However, physical exertion, psychological stress, or hot conditions can increase it without any diseases.

So if the thermometer shows 37.2 °C, and you were recently nervous, sat in a sauna, or ran a couple of kilometers, you can safely go for a walk. Of course, provided that you feel well and have no symptoms other than the thermometer readings.

A high temperature is considered to be a value of 38 °C and above. This is a sign that an inflammatory reaction is taking place in the body. Most often, its cause is a bacterial or viral infection that has affected the respiratory, genitourinary, or other systems of the body.

But even this temperature is not a contraindication to walking if you feel good. The main thing is that it is not hot outside, and you do not overload yourself – physically or emotionally.

That is, taking a leisurely walk around the house, walking the dog, or going to the store is fine. But organizing a walking marathon to the other end of the city and meeting up with friends is not worth it.

When is it better to stay home?

It is worth canceling the walk if, in addition to a high temperature, you experience weakness, dizziness, muscle aches, and other symptoms of the disease.

Since your body is already under stress, it is better to rest and let your immune system deal with the problem without increasing the load on the body. In this case, you can get fresh air by periodically ventilating the room.
