Brit tourists in sunlounger scramble at Barcelona hotel

A British holidaymaker shared a video of her fellow tourists running around the pool area at their resort “like cattle” as they tried to secure sunloungers.

If there were an Olympic event for securing sunloungers at the crack of dawn, Brits would undoubtedly be vying for the gold.

Year after year, British holidaymakers are spotted in the act of staking out sunloungers early in the morning, dashing around the poolside at first light. These antics are often captured on camera or discussed on X, previously known as Twitter.

Despite many resorts prohibiting this type of behaviour, it doesn’t deter many from attempting to secure their ideal spot by the pool.

In Barcelona, UK tourists armed with towels and beach bags ensured they secured prime sunlounger spots – much to the chagrin of many, as this blatantly violated the hotel’s rules.

One British holidaymaker, Sophie, observed the shocking scenes from the breakfast terrace. She is currently staying at the four-star H10 Delfin in Salou, near Barcelona, Spain.

The hotel has a strict no-reservation rule for sunloungers, but this didn’t deter those determined to claim a prime spot for their day of relaxation.

The 22-year-old revealed that this happens “every morning as soon as it hits 9am”, with people rushing to secure their sunbeds.

She also noted it’s “usually the same ones every day” who are eager to secure specific spots. “The dining area looked out over the pool so anyone having breakfast watched like it was a race,” she quipped.

Sophie recounted a holiday fracas, detailing that: “One morning a man outran a woman and she was furious, shaking her head and rushing off to find a different bed. The hotel had a ‘no-reserving sunbeds’ rule but unfortunately, it was never challenged.”

Moreover, she observed: “One day a hotel manager went around and removed towels belonging to people who had reserved them. But that was around 11am when most people had come back to the pool.”

Other guests didn’t mince words about the poolside drama, with remarks ranging from “Sad or what,” and “I just couldn’t be bothered. Holidays are meant to be stress-free,” to more exasperated comments such as “How they waddle their way around the pool is insane,” “My personal hell,” and a dismissive “Cattle class holidays”.
