The highly infectious coronavirus has infected more than 126,000 people and killed at least 4,638 since December. On March 11 the World Health Organization (WHO) announced the epidemic has deteriorated into a full-blown global threat.

On Wednesday, WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus urged world leaders to take “urgent and aggressive action” against the pandemic.

Dr Ghebreyesus also said he was “deeply concerned” by the “alarming levels of inaction” in response to the viral threat.

India has similarly suspended visas for most foreigners.

Denmark and Poland have closed all schools and Guatemala has banned incoming travellers from Europe.

Dr Ghebreyesus said: “We’re in this together to do the right things with clam and protect the citizens of the world. It’s doable.”
