Dad’s revenge on neighbour who blocked planning permission

People have been left gobsmacked after hearing how a man dedicated 10 years to getting revenge on a neighbour who opposed his planning permission

A man has been praised for his ‘creative’ revenge on a neighbour who opposed his planning permission. He explained how he wanted to extend his house – but his neighbour put a stop to this citing the extension would ‘block their sunlight’.

Wanting to get revenge, he came up with a plan to block their sunlight well and truly – executing his plan slowly over a 10-year timeframe.

Sharing their dad’s ‘savage revenge’ on Reddit, a user said: “When I was young my father applied for planning permission to build an extension but it was opposed by a neighbour and their excuse was that it would block the sunlight to their property.

“So my dad planted a row of a dozen or so small trees. I don’t know what they’re called but they look like Christmas trees and they grow very tall – I think they’re a sort of pine. Anyway after a few years they’d gown taller than our house and completely blocked out the so-called sunlight to our neighbours property.

“The situation was so petty that I don’t even think the neighbours noticed it because they’ve never said a word about it.”

While most users praised him for his slow but satisfying revenge, others joked he should request planning permission again as sunlight is no longer an issue.

One user said: “I bet seeing those trees growing year by year sure made dad’s coffee taste better in the morning.” Another user added: “Apply to build the extension again. No reasonable grounds to deny now.”

A third user said: “Slow and steady wins the revenge! Well played, dad!” One more user added: “Now build a treehouse to block their view of the sky.”

However, another user believes the neighbour is better off looking at a tree than an “ugly” extension, saying: “I bet it was never really about the light. That was just the excuse neighbour used so they wouldn’t have to look at whatever monstrosity dad wanted to build.

“Let’s face it, most extensions on homes look ugly unless you pay to get a good architect who really knows what they’re doing to integrate it more seamlessly into the existing design of the house. Dad’s been stewing in his bitterness and wasted who knows how much time and money cultivating these trees, and neighbor probably doesn’t care or possibly even likes the trees.”
