American says one type of Brit crisps should be ‘illegal’

An American man who is currently living in the UK has shared his thoughts on some of the nation’s favourite crisps, rating them out of 10.

After relocating to a different country, you’re bound to encounter numerous novelties.

From the lifestyle to the cuisine to the people – there’s a lot of changes you have to acclimatise to. A man, known as kjordyyy on TikTok, recently relocated from America to the UK, and one particular aspect has left him utterly bewildered.

It appears that certain brands of British crisps have left him completely puzzled due to their stark difference to American versions. However, he seems quite taken with some of our traditional favourites.

In a recent video, he mentioned that Walkers is one of the most popular brands, which look “just like Lays”. This is primarily because the crisps are marketed under different brands in various parts of the world.

He gave them a score of around 7/10, but commended the availability of share packets that come individually wrapped. The influencer tipped his hat to the Brits for worrying about portion control, as he claimed that only large bags of them are available in the US.

Next, he moved onto Monster Munch, likening them to a cheese puff, albeit with vinegar. He also displayed a bag of Skips, but he “can’t get behind it”, giving the product a mere 3/10 rating.

While he loved Mini Cheddars, he was unimpressed with other snacks available in the British supermarket. He added: “Mini Cheddars is banging by the way. This is the closest thing we have to Cheez-Its. It gets a solid 8/10.

“McCoy’s. It’s like a British Ruffles. I don’t know what they’re thinking with this one – Marmite crisps. Should be illegal.”

There were some he loved though. The American continued: “Now we’re getting to the gold mine – these are called Sensations.

“This is like the Taj Mahal of British crisps. If you guys have never had Thai Sweet Chilli Sensations, you’re missing out, and I honestly feel bad for you.”

Following the uploader’s snack sampling video, thousands of people viewed it, and they were also quick to react.

No one seemed to object with the TikToker’s evaluation of Marmite crisps. But as Hula Hoops are typically adored by Brits, many couldn’t believe he gave them such a poor rating.

One user said: “Did he actually just hate on the beef Hula Hoops? Can’t behaving that.” Another one argued for a different snack, adding: “Skips are a 10/10. Something is wrong with your palette.”

A third also replied: “You mean you haven’t tried Pom Bears yet? Do it NOW.” Meanwhile, a fourth remarked: “Absolutely loving your food assessment.”
