The American entertainment giant has reportedly axed a character following concerns that their name is ‘offensive’ to a certain group of people.
Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck and Goofy are among countless iconic Disney characters.
Yet, the American entertainment giant is now reportedly axing one of its beloved animal friends, amid concerns they are ‘offensive’ and ‘derogatory’ to alcoholics.
The revelation was divulged earlier this week by Inside The Magic, a website solely dedicated to Disney Resort updates and information.
It announced that Walt Disney’s Magic Kingdom park in Florida had launched a new Country Bear Musical Jamboree – a show featuring several singing animatronic animals.
While this first opened in 1971, it had undergone a huge transformation in January of this year. But with that, came the removal of Liver Lips McGrowl – a ‘drunk’ character that had been part of the franchise for more than 50 years.

The Disney-focused blog said: “The term ‘liver lips’ is considered derogatory and offensive, as it is associated with excessive alcohol consumption and the resulting liver damage. The phrase is deemed to be insensitive and outdated, prompting Disney’s decision to modify the character.”
Liver Lips McGrowl has now been swapped for Romeo McGrowl – a new bear that looks almost identical to the previous figure. This character will now take part in the revamped Country Bear Musical Jamboree from July 17.
Disney World removes Liver Lips McGrowl from the Country Bear Jamboree after 50 years, claiming he could offend alcoholics.

Unsurprisingly, this has sparked quite the reaction on social media, with various Disney fans voicing their view on the previous bear’s ‘offensiveness’. On X, formerly Twitter, one person said: “If I was an alcoholic, I’d be too busy drinking at the bar drinking, not at Disneyland getting offended, but hey, that’s just me.”
However, another added: “It’s about damn time!”, as someone else chimed in: “I didn’t even know the Country Bears had names…”
Disney World has been approached for comment.
