‘I’m sick of people shouting in restaurants – I’ve got best revenge’

A woman shared the perfect revenge she got on an ‘entitled’ restaurant customer who disrupted her meal with her loud conversation – and many are on her side.

Eating at a restaurant should be a pleasant experience, but it can be tarnished by other tables around you.

If you’ve ever been sat at a restaurant and suddenly heard people shouting at the table next to you, you’ll know how frustrating it can be. Whether it’s people having an argument, friends having a good time and getting too rowdy, or a small child screaming because they don’t want to eat their vegetables, the annoying noises can put you off your dinner.

Unfortunately, there’s not much you can do about it if you don’t want to make a scene. You can mention the issue to the staff and see if they ask the offending table to keep the noise down, but otherwise you’ll most likely have to put up with it until you can pay the bill and leave.

That is unless you’ve got a great method to getting your own back on the noisy table.

One woman on Reddit has just the trick that’s guaranteed to leave the disrespectful diners “embarrassed”, and she put it into action for the first time recently when having dinner at a “casual restaurant” with her husband.

The woman said she visits that particular restaurant a lot because the atmosphere is usually pretty relaxed. But on this particular trip, she couldn’t help but get distracted when she heard something that sounded “like a TV playing”.

Instead of a TV, however, the woman discovered another diner sitting three tables across from her. The customer had her phone propped against her glass of water and was talking to her friend via video call.

She said: “The woman had her phone propped against her water glass and was having a LOUD conversation with the phone while she ate. I could hear everything. How rude!”

Seething, the woman decided to take revenge in the best way – by inserting herself into the stranger’s conversation.

She explained she went over to the offending table and made sure she was visible in the phone’s camera. She then put on her cheeriest voice and said: “Hi! How are you? I figured since I could hear the conversation at my table, I would I introduce myself! Hi, I’m Nancy! So nice to meet you.”

The woman then went back to her table and joked she was “disappointed” to discover the other customer “discontinued her conversation” a few moments later.

Commenters on the post were fully on board with the woman’s revenge plan, with many saying they actually do a similar thing when they’re faced with people having phone conversations on speaker.

One person said: ” I did something similar in a Walmart. Woman in line at the pharmacy was talking to her sister on the speaker so everybody could hear. I very loudly said ‘Does your sister know she’s on speaker phone?’ She didn’t, but she did learn that she was. The woman in line goes to me ‘You’re an a**hole, you know that?’ And all I said was ‘yes’. End of conversation.

And a teacher wrote: “I do this with students who talk during quiet time in class! The rule is that you can talk quietly but if I can hear you from my desk it is NOT quiet and I will join in on the discussion. It only takes one, ‘Which one of you have a crush on Dylan? Or are both of you crushing on Dylan?’ for everyone to learn to lower their voices real quick.”
