Optical illusions can be quite revealing, often shedding light on the inner workings of our minds. This is precisely what a certain visual featuring a horse is said to do – but you’ve got to stick with your initial instinct for it to truly work.

A TikTok clip by @psychologylove100 has gone viral, claiming to discern whether you’re more of a logical thinker or a creative soul based on which side of your brain is more active.

The video kicks off with: “If you see the horse spinning right to left, the left brain dominates. You are more analytical and logical.”

The video continues: “If the horse is spinning left to right, the right brain is more dominant. This means you are a very creative person.”

For those who spotted both directions, the video suggests they belong to an exclusive 25% of folks with a syncronised “right and left hemisphere”.

Users have been quick to comment on the video, with one saying: “It’s going left and right.” Another chimed in: “I see both. Immediately.” A third remarked: “I’m a left brain. Even in high school, a psychology teacher proves it but I was the only one in my entire class. Even other classrooms don’t have a single one.”

But some viewers aren’t convinced and reckon the horse changes course mid-video, with one noting: “I was making it spin both ways. this is awesome. then the top body and bottom body were spinning differently. One more user added: ” Another user observed: “It changes direction midway every time, and is it accurate to say it spinning, it goes one way then changes half through the cycle.”

Mindvalley champions the use of brainteasers, suggesting they bolster the mind by challenging one’s lateral thinking skills to solve thinking puzzles, logic puzzles, or riddles. They explain: “Lateral thinking is a form of problem-solving that utilises a more creative, less direct approach to the problem.”

“Analytical, logical problem-solving encourages vertical thinking, which is an approach we’re often taught when dealing with math equations. Lateral thinking is the indirect approach. It helps us view problems in an entirely new light. It helps us find unique, creative solutions we might never have before imagined.”
