CONSPIRACY theorists have bizarrely accused SpaceX and NASA of fabricating the Crew Dragon launch, with many people on social media claiming space is not real, Earth is flat and humans have never left the planet.
SpaceX’s weekend launch of the Crew Dragon spacecraft marked the culmination of a historic partnership between NASA and the Elon Musk company. The launch saw astronauts Bob Behnken and Doug Hurley fly to the International Space Station (ISS) aboard a private-built spacecraft for the first time in spaceflight history. But many conspiracy theorists are convinced the launch never took place, claiming on social media the world was duped by a CGI recording.

Conspiracists flooded platforms like Twitter immediately after the May 30 launch to share their outrageous theories.
One person tweeted: “It is CGI, that’s why it can simply be repeated as ‘LIVE’.
“It makes me feel so sad that billions can be so easily deceived.
“Space has to be the greatest fraud man has ever experienced.”

The same person also tweeted: “Most expensive movie shot in nine years with the best CGI effects.
“They’re the most deserving of the award. #spacexlaunch”
Another person said: “How many fish lens space launches do we need to watch?
“Every single time, globers tell us it’s proof, but it’s the same lies and CGI as always?”
A third person said: “My page shows many images of the SpaceX launch.
“Some odd visual bugs appeared that strongly suggest CGI was used.”
On Saturday, the Crew Dragon was blasted off into space, strapped to a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket.
The spacecraft was accelerated to speeds of more than 17,000mph as it entered a stable orbit of our planet.
After about 19 hours of coasting towards the ISS 262 miles above Earth, the Crew Dragon docked with the space station’s Harmony module, where astronauts Hurley and Behnken were greeted by NASA’s Chris Cassidy and Russia’s Anatoly Ivanishin and Ivan Vagner.
Despite these achievements, many people believe the Earth is enclosed under a solid dome or firmament and space is a multi-billion dollar hoax created by the world’s governments.

The idea appears to originate in the Bible where Earth is described as land surrounded by water with a fixed dome above, to which the stars, the Sun and the Moon are fastened.
One person on Twitter said: “#spacex launches laughing at the way it started going at an angle you can’t leave the Earth you will bounce off the firmament #Hoax”
Another person tweeted: “What a waste of time and money. The Earth is flat and nothing gets to ‘space’#Firmament”
But humans have been going to space since 1961 and the launch of Soviet cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin.
After the cosmonaut completed an orbit of the planet, humans have been gradually venturing farther into space and on longer missions.
In 1969, NASA astronauts Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin were the first humans to walk on the surface of the Moon.
And since November 2000, humans have maintained a continuous presence in Earth orbit aboard the ISS.
Space agencies like NASA are now planning to send humans back to the Moon and to Mars – a goal aided by SpaceX’s development of the Starship spacecraft.
