Woman points out thing every Brit has at home – even if it’s unused

A woman has gone viral on TikTok after pointing out there’s one item every single person in the UK has in their house – whether they use it or not.

Brits are renowned for their odd social traditions that many don’t even recognise they’re honouring.

From our unwritten but perfectly coordinated queuing etiquette to the unspoken taboo of initiating chit-chat with someone on the underground, it appears Brits navigate a labyrinth of societal norms without batting an eyelid.

Now, one woman has sent the internet into meltdown by highlighting yet another peculiarly British habit that we all unconsciously adhere to and it’s safe to say it caught many off guard.

Charlee took to TikTok to enlighten us about a staple that’s found in every UK household, whether it’s used or not. She insisted one must always have this item at hand for visitors or risk committing a “faux pas”.

And what might that essential item be? Tea, obviously.

In her viral video, Charlee enlightened viewers: “Here’s a fun thing that people who aren’t from the UK might not know.

“I feel like people joke about our tea-drinking culture, but a fun fact about that is that if I were to have my own house and I didn’t have tea bags in my house, even though I don’t drink tea, and somebody came around and wanted a cup of tea, that would be a social faux pas. That would be a problem.

“There should just be a box of PG Tips or whatever you drink in the cupboard just in case somebody who drinks tea comes over and wants to have a cup of tea. You should always just have tea on hand.

“What other beverage is like that? Imagine having to buy Diet Coke in case somebody wants a Diet Coke. Madness.”

Commenters on Charlee’s video were quick to concur, noting the strange societal convention as they admitted to keeping tea in their homes despite being non-tea drinkers themselves.

An individual recounted: “When I moved into my first flat, I didn’t have a kettle for about six months because I had a Keurig for my coffee and didn’t drink tea.

“The first time my mum came round, she found it so abhorrent that she went to the Asda across the road and bought me a kettle and tea bags.”

Another commenter chimed in: “I was talking about this the other day but [with] coffee. I do not drink coffee but I always have it in, it’s polite. Hate when I go to someone’s house, and they don’t have tea.”

And a third shared: “My parents complained every time, so I had to buy teabags on the off chance they come up.”
