A runaway ingredient hidden amongst a pile of pecans has left Redditors puzzled.

A Reddit user posting under the Su0091 shared the devilishly difficult challenge on the Find The Sniper forum, challenging its 660,000 followers to “Find the half piece of star anise”.
The rich mix of angles and shadows make it really tricky to pick out the spice, the its similar colour only adding to the task.
Various users admitted the search wasn’t helped by them not knowing exactly what star anise is.

“It might help if I knew what star anise was!” one user wrote, quipping that they guessed it was the thing that’s not pecan-shaped”.
Another said: “I have never used star anise in any way/shape/form but somehow know what it looks like.”
Meanwhile, a third said, “Once I saw it though I was like ohhhhhhh didn’t know that was the name lol.”

The star anise was hidden around the top right of the image, neatly camouflaged among the layer of pecans.
As with other games of this kind, zooming in can help you to pick out anything amiss as you scan across the image.
