BT and Sky confirm title of 'best' UK broadband. Has your provider won or lost?

The UK's leading internet service providers have completed recent tests and a clear leader has emerged.

If you're looking for the 'best' UK broadband, Virgin Media looks like the best option. The internet service provider (ISP) has just been ranked number one in the latest Opensignal tests. The independent analytics company said it analysed the real-world fixed broadband experiences of our customers across the country, and then across 12 regions.

Virgin Media won five national tests, including best quality, download speed, upload speed, video and reliability. Vodafone also performed well, coming second in four of the five tests.

“Virgin Media wins all five awards for overall experience hands down,” Opensignal confirmed.

“This means that among the UK's national broadband providers, Virgin Media customers get the best video streaming experience, the fastest average download and upload speeds, and the most reliable and consistent fixed broadband.”

In terms of regional services, Community Fibre won the most awards in London, YouFibre achieved excellent results in the North of England, Hyperoptic was the most awarded ISP in Scotland and Virgin Media won all five awards in Wales and was the most awarded ISP in Northern Ireland.

The bottom three providers were at the bottom of the table, with one of them receiving the lowest scores for consistency, download speed and reliability. EE came in last for download speed.

If this makes you unsure about the quality of your broadband internet access, it's worth finding out which providers are available in your area and how much they charge for their services.

Keep in mind that it's not just the big companies like BT and Sky that now provide internet access, there are also many smaller alternative networks that also offer internet connections.

Many of them, like Community Fibre and Hyperoptic, offer significantly faster speeds at lower prices, so it's worth checking out their offerings and seeing what options are available.

Speaking about the news, Gareth Lister, Director of Communications at Virgin Media O2, said: “We are committed to providing our customers with fast and reliable connections, so to be recognised by Opensignal as the best provider in all five categories is fantastic news. It is a testament to our continued investment and hard work to ensure our customers have the best possible broadband experience.”
