China plans to deploy the world's largest drone carrier by the end of June. Dubbed the “mother of drones,” the aircraft promises to give the People's Liberation Army (PLA) more capability to deploy swarms of drones for combat, surveillance, rescue missions and other tasks.

According to information published in the South China Morning Post (SCMP), the Jiu Tian unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV), weighing 11 tons (10 tonnes), is capable of carrying up to 100 smaller UAVs with a total weight of up to 6.6 tons (6 tonnes) over a distance of up to 4,350 miles (7,000 km).

The aircraft was unveiled in November at the Zhuhai International Air Show, China's largest aerospace technology event, and has the potential to launch kamikaze drones (also known as loitering munitions) – drones designed to wait until they spot a target and then intercept and collide with it, often using explosives.
