Sky’s NOW service has just received a major free update and here’s what’s new.
Sky might have just launched new its Glass Gen 2 TV with an improved screen and better sound but it's not forgetting those that don't want to sign up for a long term contract. The firm's NOW streaming platform has long offered an easy way to watch services such as Sky Sports and Sky Cinema via phones, tablets, smart TVs or consoles and it's getting a revamp from today.
Members of NOW should start to see the changes rolling out almost immediately. Sky promises the update will offer a "world-class streaming experience" with a fresh look and the ability to find the content they want to watch faster.
These blockbuster changes are being implemented because NOW is moving from its current system and switching over to technology powered by the team at NBCUniversal instead.
“Migrating to NBCU’s Global Streaming Platform means NOW members will benefit from the ongoing delivery of customer features that enhance the viewing experience and leverage the latest technologies and innovations across the platform," Carli Kerr, Managing Director of NOW & Sky Content, explained.
Here are some of the upgrades coming to NOW.
• Sky says the update will make it easier to jump into the shows people are talking about, like The Day of the Jackal or The White Lotus
• There will be new rails, such as Top 10s and along with smoother search options
• For Sports Members, SkySports+ streams will be housed as curated collections, making it easier to get to what they want to watch in one place, such as The Miami Open tennis tournament
• There will be more choice and control for families with the introduction of Kids profiles to deliver over 10,000 episodes of award-winning kids’ content, including shows like Sky Kids Ready Eddie Go! or Boomerang’s What’s New Scooby-Doo – all ad-free.
Sky says the changes are rolling out now, so they should be available on TVs, tablets, and phones soon.
If you fancy giving NOW a go, you'll find the app on most smart devices. It's then simply a question of signing up for the content you want to watch.
For example, you can enjoy a Cinema Membership for £6.99 per month or grab a Sports Membership for £26 per month.
Some deals require a six-month sign-up length, but others will let you leave after just one month.
